Olympic News Service

Title: Online Journalist

Work: 3-month contract

Duties: Writing online news stories, press conference reports and features; interviewing athletes during the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Russia

Output: MySochi.ru (internet portal only live during the games and accessible to accredited journalists)

I covered the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, for the Olympic News Service (ONS), which the Olympic organising committee’s in-house news agency producing web content for the thousands of accredited journalists covering the games.

I was one of around 40 paid reporters who worked with at least twice as many volunteer reporters. Each venue had five (paid and volunteer) reporters, plus a supervisor, to interview athletes, report on press conferences and source exclusive stories.

All our content was published on a website only available to accredited journalists, who could then reuse all material as they wished.

I first covered the sliding venue (bobsleigh, skeleton and luge), but was later asked to transfer to the alpine skiing venue because they needed more German speakers.
